Mathematics

The Institute of Mathematics is a thriving centre of mathematical teaching and research. The Institute is located in a recently built part of Fraser Noble Building which contains modern lecture facilities and plenty of room for informal meetings and discussion. We offer a high quality mathematical education. Our rigorous and comprehensive programme offers a good choice of courses from the very beginning, dedicated classrooms in the later years, as well as small class sizes. The study here page provides more information about the structure of our degrees and courses offered.

Research in the Institute is primarily in pure mathematics, especially Algebra, Analysis, Geometry and Topology. Some of us also work on applications of pure mathenatics, particularly topology and geometry, to sciences. Together with the Institute for Complex Systems and Mathematical Biology (ICSMB) we form the  Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM). See our Research page for more detail.
