Hi, this is to inform you that the moving of the Yamaha DX Users Group Mailing List has been completed. Please store this message - it contains useful info you might need at a _later_ time...maybe not now...but later...okay!? And before you submit any postings to the list - please read thru this message at least once...it only takes you five minutes! --------------------------------------------------------------------- ***************** YAMAHA DX USERS GROUP MAILING LIST **************** --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello! Welcome to the Yamaha DX Users Group Mailing List! This is the list that was previousely maintained by David J Benson. Please read all of this email, from top to bottom, as it contains some very important information you need to be aware of that may concern your subscription to the list. As a subscriber to the Yamaha DX Users Group Mailing List it is assumed you agree to the following terms and conditions: A reasonably good signal to noise ratio is appreciated and we expect you to find this online community fruitful and informative. By "a reasonably good signal to noise ratio" we don't mean to say there is restriction on content, except that we have to stress that this list is related to the Yamaha DX range. Don't post stuff that is off-topic, i.e. something that does not have anything to do with music that you make with help of your DX instrument. All members have joined the list because they want to discuss the DX synthesizers. Use the list for what it's intended and find other mailing lists and/or newsgroups for other discussions. Use common sense! It's not fun wading through off-topic posts having nothing at all to do with recording, much less with the DX product line. We have members who (1) pay by the minute for downloads and cannot afford to subscribe to a group that makes one pay to download off- topic posts and (2) do not have English as a first language and who don't want to wade through off-topic discussion to get to something that actually concerns recording. Posting extremely foul or abusive language aimed at a fellow list member is unwanted. This includes obscenities, verbal harassment, or comments that would prove offensive based on race, religion, or sexual orientation. You alone are responsible for what you write! The list owner reserves the right to terminate any subscriber's access to this list for any violation of these terms. NOTE: This mailinglist is NOT a property of Yamaha. Your subscription to the Yamaha DX Users Group Mailing List has been accepted and higly appreciated. If you do not agree to the terms and conditions, you may unsubscribe from the list: mailto:listadmin@musaic.net?subject=m-dx-r-unsubscribe To post a new message to the list, just click this link: mailto:dx@musaic.net?subject=---%%20insert%%20subject%%20--- We strongly advice you to remember to change the subject into something that fits your topic! :) Thanks! Best regards Listadministrator - Musaic.Net --- Special thanks to Ken Handfield Jr., Michael Dagley, and Timo Sack. For more information on general Internet-wide Netiquette guidelines, see http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1855.txt OTHER USEFUL STUFF - TOPICS ARE: - Your privacy! - What type of editions are available? - Why am I getting tons of mail from people? - Is there an archive somewhere? - How do I post to the list? - How do I sort mail from this list in my inbox? - I posted a message but it did not show up on the list! - I haven't received any emails for several days! - Sending messages in HTML / sending messages with attachments? - What is "The Horizontal Paul music project"? - I want to ask listadmin a question! --- YOUR PRIVACY! --------------------------------------------------------------------- This list is a private list - private in the sense that non-members cannot access the mailing list; they cannot post or read messages unless they subscribe first. This prevents 'spammers' or 'trollers' from indiscriminantly posting junk to the group or gathering email addresses for unauthorized commercial use. WHAT TYPE OF EDITIONS ARE AVAILABLE? --------------------------------------------------------------------- There are two editions... The "Regular Mail" version of the list sends out a message as soon as it is received. The "Digest" version gathers the day's emails and compiles them into a single message, and gets mailed to subscribers when it grows beyond 40k in size. NOTE: Yamaha DX Users Group Mailing List is NOT a Majordomo based list. Majordomo commands "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" does not apply directly. To remove/add yourself from/to the list, please click the link that fits your choice: To subscribe to the Yamaha DX Users Group Mailing List Regular, mailto:listadmin@musaic.net?subject=m-dx-r-subscribe To subscribe to the Yamaha DX Users Group Mailing List Digest, mailto:listadmin@musaic.net?subject=m-dx-d-subscribe To unsubscribe from the Yamaha DX Users Group Mailing List Regular, mailto:listadmin@musaic.net?subject=m-dx-r-unsubscribe To unsubscribe from the Yamaha DX Users Group Mailing List Digest, mailto:listadmin@musaic.net?subject=m-dx-d-unsubscribe WHY AM I GETTING TONS OF MAIL FROM PEOPLE? --------------------------------------------------------------------- You have subscribed to a _mailing_list_ (a discussion forum). Any mail sent to the list will be sent to anyone who is subscribed to it - including you! That's the system of a mailing list. It does make sense, too - maybe you can help anyone else with a problem? But this will only be possible if you read his or her posting, no matter if you initiated it or not. Mailing lists allow all the subscribers to participate and post information to the rest of the participants of the list. As a result, mailing lists are more appropriate for the interaction and discussion of certain topics - like the Yamaha DX instruments! The "Regular Mail" version of the list sends out a message as soon as it is received. The "Digest" version gathers the day's emails and compiles them into a single message, and gets mailed to subscribers when it grows beyond 40k in size. IS THERE AN ARCHIVE OR A WEB FORUM SOMEWHERE? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Not at this time - it used to be... HOW DO I POST TO THE LIST? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to dx@musaic.net This is called "sending mail to the list", because you send mail to a single address and our software makes copies for all the people who have subscribed. This address; dx@musaic.net is also called the "list address". Please keep in mind that many of our subscribers do not have English as their first language or "mother-tongue." We have members in many countries, and some members may not have a firm grasp of the English language. To them, any highly idiomatic discussion, largely off- topic, might be a pure torture. Please also make our list helpful to those who do not have English as their native language so they can keep up. This is also why we recommend that you keep your posts as short as possible. HOW DO I SORT MAIL FROM THIS LIST IN MY INBOX? --------------------------------------------------------------------- All mail to this list has symbol [DX] in the Subject line. Furthermore, the Receipient is always dx@musaic.net. I POSTED A MESSAGE BUT IT DID NOT SHOW UP ON THE LIST! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Many members have multiple aliases and like the option of being able to post from any of them. The setback is that the list software can't tell who you are, how many email addresses you have and what they are, and by subscribing all of your addresses, you receive multiple copies of the mailing list. If you want to send from alternative addresses, please let me know so I can let the list software know about you. A third reason is that they send their messages from work. Very often a special signature is added to corporate messages - like "this email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed". The mailing list software is configured to block mail with signatures as such even though the addresses are subscribed. At this time those messages must be approved by the listadministrator before they are relayed to the listmembers. I HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY EMAILS FOR SEVERAL DAYS! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Typical inquiry: "I am signed up on your email list, but have not received any emails for several days. What happened?". If your email address starts bouncing messages (returning mail delivery errors to us), we will eventually have to unsubscribe you from the list. Many times this is caused by a mailbox getting full, or some other kind of local configuration error on your ISP's (Internet Service Provider's, i.e. NETCOM, VIRGIN, EDEN, etc.) server, or from your email account being closed. We wait until we've received several such mail delivery errors for your email address before we unsubscribe you, but eventually we need to do something or we could get mail delivery errors indefinitely. If you want to rejoin the list, please send in another subscription request. If you were getting emails just fine and they stopped all of a sudden, please send me an email and I will look into it. AOL USERS: If you use AOL's mail functions you need to disable email blocking which will prevent list messages from reaching you. The email generated from this mailing is sometimes erroneously perceived by AOL to be 'SPAM'. If mail blocking is not relaxed, some discussion threads sent to you may 'bounce' back and your subscription may eventually end up being terminated. SENDING MESSAGES IN HTML / SENDING MESSAGES WITH ATTACHMENTS? --------------------------------------------------------------------- These limitations apply to Majordomo - we moved away from Majordomo and created our own list software, and our software doesn't have any such critical need that you can not send HTML nor attachments to the list. BUT please be aware that when you send HTML code to the list, the code is ripped and binned in our Recycle Bin... If you send HTML to the list, only the Text portion will survive! It is likewise with attachments - send as you please, but none of the attachments will be relayed to the list - attachments are binned, too... Just in case you're lost on the topic: Many current email clients are set up to send mail in other than plain text format by default, RTF, HTML, attached files, etc. These settings render email unreadable by some members and are a larger strain on bandwidth. In general, I discourage sending any files to any mailing lists. Not only does it increase the size and download time of any messages sent to the group as a whole, but some people just don't want files sent to them! If you still feel that the file is something worth sharing, send an email with a website reference (URL) where to download it. Please be sure it is virus free and of topic interest to the group. WHAT IS "THE HORIZONTAL PAUL MUSIC PROJECT"? --------------------------------------------------------------------- It's about a dream... http://www.horizontal-paul.com/ I WANT TO ASK LISTADMIN A QUESTION! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Email direct to the list's administrator at listadmin@musaic.net
