Conference on Algebraic Topology, Group Theory and Representation Theory
An international conference is planned for the second week of June 2009: 9-15 June, 2009 (with the expected arrival and departure dates on the 8th and 16th). The conference will take place on the Isle of Skye - a scenic island off the west coast of Scotland.
The aim of the conference is to stimulate activity in and enhance interaction between Algebraic Topology, Group theory and Representation theory. The conference will also be an opportunity for colleagues to celebrate the 6oth birhday of two distinguished mathematicians, Bob Oliver and Ron Solomon. We plan to have several plenary speakers as well as contributed talks, with exact numbers to be determined later. Currently, the following have agreed to give a plenary talk:
- Alejandro Adem (University of British Columbia)
- Michael Aschbacher (California Institute of Technology)
- George Glauberman (University of Chicago)
- John Greenlees (University of Sheffield)
- Robert Griess (University of Michigan) -- TBC
- Jesper Grodal (University of Copenhagen)
- Lars Hesselholt (Nagoya University)
- Nick Kuhn (University of Virginia)
- Jean Lannes (École Polytechnique)
- Ian Leary (Ohio State University)
- Peter Neumann (University of Oxford)
- Raphael Rouquier (University of Oxford)
- Stephen Smith (university of illinois at chicago)
- Alexandre Turull (University of Florida)
The following have offered finacial support to the conference: Edinburgh Mathematical Society, Glasgow Mathematical Trust, London Mathematical Society, National Science Foundation, and the Representation Theory across the Channel network.
